KimSim Design & Media was formed by myself, Kim Durose, in November 2003 following numerous requests by friends, family, and local contacts to produce designs for printed items and websites on a freelance basis. By this time, I had been producing freeware models of locomotives and rolling stock for the popular game Microsoft Train Simulator, the name "KimSim" being an amalgamation of my first name and the word "Simulation".
When approached by several software publishers to produce commercial content for the game, I decided to start the KimSim business to take care of the financial aspects of this extra income, which opened up new possibilities to expand the creative artwork and website design side of my work.
I have worked in the print trade, and more specifically the packaging sector since 1989, serving my apprenticeship in multicolour litho printing and conventional pre-press areas before moving full-time into design, digital artwork and reprographics in 1995. I have also worked extensively (and still do to this day) in structural carton packaging design. With a raft of hands-on experience in many areas of pre-press operations, I feel I am in a great position to offer my clients a truly professional "one-stop" shop service for all of their print design and artwork requirements.
I have been designing and hosting websites since the "internet explosion" of the late 1990s. What started out as a hobby, producing simple static sites for local clubs and societies has evolved somewhat over the years, to a point where we now offer a broad portfolio of web and email services. We can still provide those simple static sites, along with eCommerce shopping sites, Content Management Systems for our clients to administer and create their own content, Email Marketing Campaigns, and Email address provision.
